27-Pound 'Walking Skeleton' Transforms Into Happiest Pup With A Little Love

Meet Jeremiah: a sweet rescue pup who recently arrived at the Pennsylvania SPCA (PSPCA) in heartbreaking shape.

“At just 27 pounds, he was severely emaciated — skin and bones, barely able to stand,” PSPCA wrote in a Facebook post. “Even our veterinary team couldn’t believe he could walk.”

Shelter staff knew that Jeremiah had been found on the street, but otherwise they didn’t have much information on his background. Their hearts burst as they realized the “walking skeleton” had so much love to offer.

“Even when he was in such a critical state, he was still so happy and eager to greet his friends,” a representative from PSPCA told .

For weeks, animal experts monitored Jeremiah as he began a special refeeding plan, allowing the pup to eat in appropriate increments so he wouldn't hurt himself. As rescuers got to know Jeremiah better, they learned that he was highly food-motivated, a trait that helped him master many new tricks.

Jeremiah stuck to his health plan, and soon he was almost double his original weight. For the first time in so long, the pup had the energy to run and play.

Finally feeling great, Jeremiah was ready to begin searching for his forever home. It wasn’t long before

he made a connection with a couple who’d recently lost their dog and were looking for a new best friend.

“They fell in love with Jeremiah during the meet and were fully prepared to help him transition to home life!” the representative said.

Soon enough, Jeremiah had a new family and a new name — Tucker.

Today, Tucker is happy and safe with his parents, enjoying the comforts of home.

“He fits in like he’s been here for years,” Tucker’s new parent told The Dodo. “He brings a lot of joy to my life that I’ve been missing!”
